Site information page

This page has been added so that the passing visitor can decide from the information that I have added, if they want to travel any further.

Whilst this site was initially aimed  primarily for people who attended St Joseph's School, Nechells Birmingham. It is clear that the information, that has been obtained from both former pupils and teachers, has progressed us into a very informative site, that will be valuable to anyone, interested in the history of an inner city area that has been developing since the middle 1730's.

You will find much about the founding of the Church and its very famous architect. The School and  and how it came to be developed.

You will be able to read of the experiences of former pupils like Phyllis Arnold, Joe Harford, Pat Brierley, Richard O'Connor and many others. There is also the experiences of Miss Frances Vaughan, who first attended as a pupil before coming back to teach at the school.  They will all give you much food for thought as to how people lived through some very difficult times.

There is a wealth of information contained within the stories. We have already received many requests for items included within these pages, to be made available for educational purposes.

If you just like photographs, well there are many, both old and new, with many more still being added as they come to attention.

We are not a money making site. We only want your attention and, if necessary, your constructive comments and maybe your own story about the area.

As a result of the site, we have made connections with former pupils living in South Africa, Australia and Canada and of course, all over the UK.

As a result of our reunions, we have been able to reunite friends who had lost touch, in some cases for over 40 years!

If you are looking for a site with all bells and whistles with dissolving pages and flashing lights, this clearly not the place for you. My knowledge of site building is very basic and once you get started, you will quickly realise!

So have a look, there is no charge. If not for you, thank you for taking the time at least to find out.
