So how has this site come about? Having spent the majority of my school years at St Joseph's Catholic School, I often wondered what had happened to those fellow pupils I attended school with. On leaving school I had lost contact with most of them. During the following years, even those I did have contact with, went off the scene as I got on with my life and moved away from the area.
My thoughts of the past were resurrected when, in 2000, a reunion was arranged by a few former pupils.
From that reunion, attended by some 200 former pupils, an hard core of 40, bonded to form the current Reunion group. I am pleased to say that with other former pupils learning of the Association, the numbers are continuing to grow. The reunion group currently has some 85 members and meets at least once a year, usually in June or July.
Chairman of the current reunion committee is John Tocker, who attended the school between 1947 and 1957, and myself, Richard Scott (1949-1957) assists as editor/secretary.
The formulating of this web page is to broaden our scope for contacting other former pupils, who might now be living far from the place of their schooldays and reminding them of a often tough, but hopefully, happy school time.
As time goes on I would like to think you can help me develop this site and enable it to be a contact point for those wishing to renew school day acquaintances. We now have contact with former pupils in Australia and New Zealand.
If you have a story to tell let me have it. The stories I have included on the current site, are in the main, from my book on St Joseph's. I anticipate hopefully, that as time goes on, these will be changed and new ones added.
The new St Joseph's School now stands in Rocky Lane, Nechells, just about 1/4 mile from the site of the old school. The new school only caters for Infants and Juniors. It is in that school hall, where, each year we now hold our reunion meetings.
If you do have someone you are trying to trace you only have to ask.
Your help would be greatly appreciated on the photograph page. Many of the pupils are not named. I would like to alter that. If you can add any names, please contact me. I hope to be able to change the photographs from time to time as new ones come in. I still have some to add, but that can come later.
Sorry if the site is not all flashing lights and moving logos. I haven't reached that part in The idiots guide I am following yet. If you can help in that area, it would be appreciated.
The web site is such, and the inflow of information so slow, that it does not need changing or updating every other day. YOU, however could alter that by providing me with YOUR information. What have YOU got to say?
